STUDENTS DISCUSSED TRIPS THEY HAD TAKEN OUTSIDE OF MARYLAND. USING CULTUREGRAMS THEY RESEARCHED THE PLACE THEY VISITED TO TRY TO FIND INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THAT LOCATION. THE CLASS DISCUSSED THE COMPONENTS NEEDED TO WRITE A GOOD OPINION PARAGRAPH. STUDENTS THEN WROTE A PARAGRAPH USING A WORD DOCUMENT THAT THEY READ WHILE BEING VIDEO-TAPED. THE PARAGRAPH WAS TO STATE THEIR OPINION OF THE TRIP THEY TOOK. THEY WERE TO INCLUDE AT LEAST 3 DETAILS FROM THEIR TRIP TO SUPPORT THE OPINION THEY HAD OF THE TRIP. THE PARAGRAPH WAS TO BE ENDED WITH A WRAP-UP OR CONCLUSION SENTENCE. STUDENTS USED WIXIE (AN ONLINE VERSION OF PIXIE) TO CREATE AN ILLUSTRATION REFLECTING SOMETHING THEY DID ON THEIR TRIP. THE GREEN SCREEN EFFECT IN IMOVIE WAS THEN USED TO COMBINE THEIR WIXIE ILLUSTRATION WITH THEIR VIDEO TO CREATE THEIR INDIVIDUAL MOVIES. THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT GREEN SCREEN VIDEOS WERE THEN COMBINED INTO A CLASS VIDEO.

STUDENTS DISCUSS SITUATIONS THAT ARE DIFFICULT AT FIRST BUT IF THEY USE A GROWTH MINDSET THEY WILL OFTEN EARN SUCCESS BY NEVER GIVING UP AND WORKING HARD ON A SKILL UNTIL THEY ARE SUCCESSFUL. USING GOOGLE DOCS, STUDENTS BRAINSTORMED WHAT A GROWTH MINDSET MEANS TO THEM, AN ACADEMIC GOAL FOR THE YEAR, AND THEIR PLAN TO ACHIEVE THE GOAL USING A GROWTH MINDSET. THEN STUDENTS WROTE A PARAGRAPH USING A WORD DOCUMENT THAT THEY READ WHILE BEING VIDEO-TAPED. STUDENTS USED WIXIE (AN ONLINE VERSION OF PIXIE) TO CREATE AN ILLUSTRATION OF THEIR GROWTH MINDSET EXAMPLE. My Opinion of a Great Activity
Students will use the tools in Pixie to take a picture of their head and shoulders. They will use the drawling tools to draw the rest of their body. Students will turn the image of themselves into a sticker. The self-portrait sticker will be put into a background that helps to illustrate an activity that the student enjoys doing. The student then writes a detailed paragraph that supports their point of view with reasons. Students will turn the illustration into a narrated movie.

“My Favorite Trip Outside of Maryland”
(PIXIE MOVIE PROJECT)
Students reflected on a trip they have taken outside the state of Maryland. They then use culturegrams.com to research and find out facts of interest about that location. Students then created a Pixie presentation that included a labeled map or flag of the place they visited. They added an illustration about their experience. Then they wrote and narrated a personal narrative/opinion about their experience. The Pixie presentation was then turned into a movie. The student movies were combined into a class presentation of personal narratives about their favorite experiences outside of Maryland.

"MY GOAL FOR THE YEAR"
STUDENTS CHOSE A GOAL OR GOALS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO ACHIEVE OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. STUDENTS WROTE AN ESSAY USING WORD TO EXPLAIN THE REASON FOR THEIR GOAL AND STRATEGIES THEY PLANNED TO USE TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL. STUDENTS THEN USED AN ONLINE VERSION OF PIXIE CALLED WIXIE TO CREATE AN IMAGE ABOUT THEIR TOPIC. STUDENTS VIDEO TAPED EACH OTHER READING THEIR ESSAY USING A GREEN SCREEN. STUDENTS WERE THEN GIVEN STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS EXPLAINING HOW TO MAKE AN IMOVIE USING THE GREEN SCREEN EFFECT TO REPLACE THE GREEN SCREEN WITH THE IMAGE THAT THEY CREATED. STUDENTS THEN COMPRESSED THEIR MOVIE SO IT COULD BE SHARED ON THIS WIKI.

“Project Noah comparison”
Students go to www.projectnoah.org and check out some really cool creatures. After they choose two creatures to compare they will take a screenshot of each.
Students then use a Word template to organize a comparison paragraph about the two creatures they chose. The paragraph is then copied and pasted to a Comic Life project that includes images, and a brief description of each creature.
The Comic Life project is then turned into a jpeg image. The image is then turned into a PowerPoint slide. The PowerPoint was then narrated and turned into a movie. The individual movies were then turned into a class movie.

MY TALENT
Students used Word to write out an explanation of their special talent or hobby. Students then used a PowerPoint template to add their name, import a picture of themselves, two pieces of clip art and a title. Students then recorded themselves reading about their special talent. These recorded explanations were then combined into a class iMovie.
Miss Berndt's class
I SPY
Using common classroom objects, students will create I Spy illustrations with a particular theme. Students will write an I Spy type clue in a text box pointing out the different objects that a viewer could look for. Students will then narrate their clues and the student projects are combined into a class movie.
